Can you dig it?

What can I say about Head that hasn't already been said before?  It's an insane, brilliant, and sometimes hysterical acid trip of a movie that signaled the end of Monkeemania in the 1960s.  A lot of people have analyzed it, but I believe that Head means whatever you want it to mean, so I'm just going to give you a few of my personal opinions and theories and you may draw your own conclusions.

The film begins with this, Micky jumping off the bridge.  I think this is a really effective opening, because it sort of tells you that this movie isn't what you've come to expect from the Monkees.

This 'crazy color' effect happened a lot.  Why?  Well you see children, in the '60s; everyone was doing a lot of drugs.

Ah yes, the infamous kissing scene.  I think that the Monkees pretty much just said, "Hey, this is our movie, and we want to make out with a pretty girl."  Or she could be a symbol of how the public reacted to each of the guys.  I like my first idea better though.

Poor Nez gets the big brush off.  I'm sure there's some kind of symbolism here, but whenever I watch this scene, I can only think, "Stupid, stupid girl!  You should always say yes if Mike wants to fool around with you!"

The Monkees make some political commentary on the Vietnam War.  The meaning of this scene:  "We may just be silly Monkees, but we have informed opinions, goddamnit!"  They were never really allowed to talk about the 'big topics' on their show, so I guess they just wanted to grab this opportunity to talk about something important to them.
